The Obligatory "Welcome" Post

Here we go! Welcome to the blog of the United States Pony Club's 2010 International Tetrathlon Exchange (there's a mouthful!). The exchange this year is held in California, US from August 3 through the 14th.

We'll be joining tet -- the only thing harder than typing the word "tetrathlon" every time is trying to pronounce it! -- teams from Canada, England, Ireland and Australia. We'll have two weeks of tet practice and competition, along with some great opportunities to see California, including San Francisco, Yosemite National Park, the American River and Lake Tahoe.

Here's out tentative schedule:

Tuesday, August 3: The teams officially arrive in San Francisco. We'll have a chance to meet each other and de-pressurize from our travel at a barbecue at Mike and Pat Duffy's house, where many of our US tet team members have been staying for a few days of last-minute practice.

Wednesday, August 4: We have a scramble team run-swim-shoot practice competition

Thursday, August 5: We tour the San Francisco Bay area.

Friday-Saturday, August 6-7: We brave the elements and bears at Yosemite National Park. :-)

Sunday-Tuesday, August 8-10: Our official competition will be held at the Horse Park at Woodside, California at the USPC Championships West 2010, with running on Sunday, August 8, riding and swimming on the 9th, and shooting on the 10th. Following the competition, we head to the American River to camp overnight in anticipation of our trip down the American River.

Wednesday, August 11: River rafting on the American River.

Thursday-Friday, August 12-13: Let down, relax and play at Lake Tahoe.

Saturday, August 14: Say goodbye to all our new friends, and travel home with a full complement of great stories, photos, videos and souvenirs.

  1. Good luck to all the teams for the coming week, from the supporters of the Irish team in Wicklow.
